No Market Need
Founded by: Jordi Miró, Iñaki Ecenarro

Lernin Games was a game-based learning platform for toddlers (ages 2-6). Despite an "all-star" founding team (including the former CTO of Rakuten TV) and raising a substantial €1.5M seed round, the startup ran out of cash before it could pivot its free user base into a sustainable subscription model.

Cause of Death

Engagement vs. Education: The games struggled to find the balance between being fun enough for kids and educational enough for parents/teachers to pay for them.

The "App Store" Graveyard: Without a massive marketing budget, the educational games remained buried under thousands of free competitors in the Apple and Google stores.

Subscription Fatigue: Parents were increasingly unwilling to add another $10/month educational app to their household budget during a period of high inflation.

The Critical Mistake

Engagement vs Education: Couldn't balance fun and learning. App Store Graveyard: Buried under free competitors. Subscription Fatigue: Parents unwilling to add another $10/month app.

Key Lessons
  • EdTech games must balance engagement and education.
  • App store discoverability requires massive marketing.
  • Subscription fatigue affects family app budgets.

Deep Dive

In his interview with Failory, Jordi Miró detailed the struggle of switching from "growth mode" to "survival mode." By the time the team realized that "free users" wouldn't secure a Series A, they had very little time to test pricing. While they eventually hit $10,000 MRR, the cost to acquire those paying customers (CAC) was too high compared to their lifetime value (LTV). The pressure of managing a 10-person team, a dwindling bank account, and the sudden pivot took a massive toll. Jordi ended up in the hospital twice due to stress. He eventually realized that no startup is worth sacrificing his health or his family's mental well-being, leading to the final decision to dissolve the company. Lernin Games serves as a warning about "Premature Scaling." It proves that even with millions in the bank and a world-class team, a startup cannot survive without a validated business model. After the closure, Jordi Miró returned to a CTO role at The Hotels Network, where he applies his "lean and revenue-first" philosophy to every project.
